I will discuss several  information about the X4 issues in this part. Moreover, I will also provide solutions to these issues. Hopefully, this section will be of great use to you.

Problem 1: Loose Seal

This is a widespread problem that the users of the Bak Revolver X4 face. The cover has rubber seals on two sides. These seals are important to keep the space under the cover intact. However, they are not properly attached to the cover rolls.

The manufacturers have used some kind of glue to keep the seal attached. But the glue loses its functionality after a while. This can happen due to multiple reasons. The heat of the sun and rainfall can make the glue lose. As a result, the seal can come off.

A loose seal can cause many problems. Firstly, the light and heat passing through the cover can affect the belongings kept under it. Moreover, rainwater can get inside and cause disastrous accidents. You could end up with water leaking at the bulkhead.

Anyway, if your Bak Revolver X4 is still under warranty, the company will fix the tonneau covers. And if the warranty is over, you are on your own. But you don’t have to be worried because I have shown the exact solution to this issue below.

Solution:

Fixing the loose seal is easy if you have some super glue. Here is a step-by-step guideline for you.

  • Take the loose seal and apply the super glue on the inside part of the seal.
  • Now press the inside of the seal on the cover. Make sure to press it in the original position.
  • Keep the glued seal for about 2 to 3 minutes. Once dried out, the seal is fixed!

Problem 2: Felts Coming off

The Bak Revolver X4 comes with felt for handling purposes. Since the Revolver X4 cover is made of metal, it can get quite hot when kept under the sun. The felt makes it easy to hold when it gets too hot. But these felts come off after some time. And this is the second issue that is pretty common in the Bak Revolver X4.

If you drive your truck in warm weather, you need to prevent the cover from getting too hot. The felts come in handy in this situation. They remain cooler than the surroundings and can be touched without any trouble.

Thus, the felts can be used to roll the metal sheet according to need. But the problem occurs when the felt comes off. Just like the seals discussed above, the felt is also attached to the metal with glue.

The glue loses its stickiness upon getting hot and in other weather conditions. As a result, the felts get detached from the cover. Then rolling the Revolver X4 metal cover becomes problematic and tough. However, this problem can be solved easily if you know the procedure.

Solution:

The procedure of fixing the loose felts is quite similar to fixing the loose seals. The felts can be reattached to the sheet by using some glue too. Using Gorilla glue can be helpful in this situation. Here is a quick guideline for you.

  • Apply a handful of glue on the inside of the felts.
  • Place it in its original position on the sheet and press it.
  • Wait for some to let the glue dry. The waiting time is usually about 2 to 3 minutes.

The felts are all fixed as soon as the glue dries.

Problem 3: Bad Strap Design

The problem I am going to discuss now is a design issue. This issue comes from the factory and is a manufacturing defect.

The main benefit of the Bak Revolver X4 is its rolling ability. The tonneau covers can be rolled to the inside of the truck if the user wants to keep it open. And to ensure that the sheets stay rolled, straps are used to lock them. But locking these straps is not very comfortable.

The lock of the strap is just behind the rolled sheet. So it is quite hard to use. Moreover, the head of the lock is parallel to the truck bed instead of perpendicular. This setting makes the task of locking the straps pretty hard.

You may also have problems aligning the tabs of the Bak Revolver X4 with the grooves on the truck bed.

In that case watch this video:

Solution:

There is not much you can do to solve this problem. The manufacturers can provide a more comfortable strapping system in the next version of the Bak Revolver. The best you can do is to be careful while closing the cover.

Problem 4: Not Completely Waterproof

It is time to see the last issue with the Bak Revolver X4. This issue can be a deal breaker for many potential buyers. The primary function of the X4 hard rolling cover is to protect the items kept underneath.

The cover should be able to restrict all the sunlight and rainwater from getting inside. But it fails to maintain one hundred percent protection from water. Despite the use of seals, water gets inside the cover. Let’s see how far this water goes.

Though the amount is very less, it can be enough to wet your valuable goods. In car wash time water slipping inside mostly wets the corners of the truck bed. It does not reach the middle part of the bed.

Solution:

Similar to the bad strap design, this too is a manufacturing defect. You can not solve it. However, you can still keep your goods safe by using some tricks. Always place the goods on the middle portion of the truck bed. As water does not reach there, your items will be safe. Also, wrap the item if you think it is vulnerable to water. If the rain water is making the truck bed dirty you could consider adding a drop-in bed liner as well.

These are the major problems that you might find in the Bak Revolver X4. I have also provided the best solutions besides discussing the problem. If you still think the Bak Revolver X4 is too problematic you could look at the Rough Country Tonneau cover instead. How to Maintain Bak Revolver X4?

It is very important to maintain the Bak Revolver X4 for long-lasting performance. So I have gathered the best maintenance tips for you right here.

Cleaning:

You must keep the Bak Revolver X4 cover neat and clean. Use any automotive soap for this task. Make sure to apply the soap with clean water and a soft piece of cloth. Do not use any rough or abrasive cloth as it might damage the cover.

The manufacturers do not recommend using any Wax product on the Revolver X4. Wax can fill in the crevices and cracks on the sheet. This will hamper the rolling mechanism and cause trouble.

Lubrication:

The smoothness of the rolling depends hugely on the lubrication. So check the cover regularly to see if it is moving smoothly or not. If not, clean the dirt and grimes from the cover. Then apply silicone spray on the side rails. It will do the work of lubrication. But make sure to not spray too much.

Thorough Checking:

The Bak Revolver X4 comes with different bolts and screws. They must be installed properly for the perfect operation of the board. The bolts can get loose with time. So check the bolts after a time to ensure utmost safety.

Follow these tips properly to ensure the smooth operation of your Bak Revolver X4 cover.
